Assorted Framed Cachets
Harsh weather conditions and limited trail/road systems has historically made mail delivery extremely difficult in many areas of Alaska. In the more isolated sections, carrying the mail would require methods far different than those traditionally used elsewhere in the United States. Though things have changed slightly in modern times, Dogs have in the past proven superior for the transport of supplies throughout the state. By 1901, a network of mail trails throughout Alaska was in use, spanning hundreds of miles, from Seward to Nome.
To celebrate and preserve this historical tradition, Iditarod mushers carry cachets ("trail mail") in their sleds from the start in Anchorage to the finish in Nome.
We have a small collection of these cachets, framed and ready to hang on your wall! Some cachets are personalized. All purchase prices include free FedEx shipping to the United States only. Out of the country shipping will be calculated and invoiced to you.
