2021 DVD The Gold Trail Loop
In the midst of a pandemic, adaptation became the mantra of the 49th running of the Iditarod. Forty-six mushers started their race from Deshka Landing, a new starting location, and a trail which only thirty-six would finish.
Another theme was perseverance. Fifty below temperatures with only basic camp amenities at checkpoints tested each musher in different ways. Another adaptation for the first time in race history, teams would travel up to Iditarod (a gold rush ghost town), and then travel back down through the Alaska Range to Deshka Landing.
Those who were able to adapt finished, but only one team seemed to thrive in this relatively new ecosystem,. and one musher returned to the Iditarod to claim his place as only the second musher in race history become a five-time champion. Dallas Seavey was the first to cross the finish line after persevering on "The Gold Loop Trail".
